Blueprint Gaming has been mining The Goonies license since 2018, and this is roughly the fifth slot in the franchise. The Megaways version launched in March 2024, swapping the 20-payline setup of the original for a 6-reel engine with up to 15,625 ways to win. Each reel displays between 2 and 5 symbols per spin, so the ways count shifts constantly - one round you're working with 2,048 ways, the next it's 2,160 or higher.
Characters from the 1985 film fill the premium symbol positions. Mikey, Data, Mouth, and what appears to be Chunk sit alongside pirate skull-and-crossbones flags as the top-paying regular symbol at 5.0x total bet for six of a kind. The low symbols are standard card values (9 through Ace) paying between 0.4x and 1.5x for a full line. Wild substitutes for everything except scatter, cash collect, and the special cash/cashpot symbols - and only shows up on reels 2 through 6.
The central mechanic here is the unlock trail at the top of the screen. Seven positions on a treasure map, each tied to a different modifier or upgrade. You advance the trail by triggering Cash Collects - land any cash symbol on reels 1-6 while a Cash Collect symbol sits on reel 6, and the collect fires. Each time it does, one position lights up.
Cash symbols carry values from 0.5x to 15x your total bet. Four fixed jackpots also appear as special symbols: MINI (20x), MINOR (50x), MAJOR (200x), and MEGA (2,500x). These are fixed multipliers, not progressives, so the MEGA always pays exactly 2,500x your stake.
The trail is persistent. Progress carries over between sessions. Once you unlock all seven positions, every modifier stays active permanently in both the base game and free spins. That's a solid long-term hook, though it means early sessions before anything is unlocked feel noticeably thinner.
Three or more scatter symbols trigger the bonus. You get 10 free spins regardless of how many scatters land, but the scatter payout scales: 3 scatters give just the spins, 4 add 20x bet, 5 add 100x, and 6 scatters add a 500x bonus on top. During free spins, any active Cash Collect in view pays out all cash symbols. Collecting more Cash Collect symbols during the round awards extra spins and multipliers on future collects.
The Treasure Blitz Super Spin is the endgame feature, but it's gated behind completing the full unlock trail first. When triggered (as an alternative to free spins), every Cash, Cashpot, or Fortune Wheel symbol that lands gets swept into a retrigger trail. Stack enough symbols and you earn additional Super Spins with rising collect multipliers. It sounds powerful on paper, but reaching it requires sustained play through the unlock progression.
Sloth - the fan-favorite character - shows up randomly on any base game spin to trigger reel modifiers. The specific modifiers available depend on how far along your unlock trail has progressed. Early on, you're working with basic modifications. Further along, the modifiers gain more punch.
The 10,000x max win is decent for a Megaways game, though not spectacular by 2024 standards. Max win probability sits at 1 in 256, which is more achievable than many competitors. RTP runs at 95.00% on the highest setting, with operators also having 93% and 92% configurations available. At 95%, it's a full percentage point below the old industry standard of 96%.
Previous Goonies slots offered a wider menu of bonus features - pick-and-click games, wheel bonuses, multiple distinct free spin modes. The Megaways version trades that variety for a more focused Cash Collect loop. Whether that's an upgrade or a downgrade depends on what you're looking for. The unlock trail adds genuine progression, but the core spin-to-spin gameplay leans on a mechanic that Blueprint has deployed across dozens of titles at this point.
Bets run from 0.10 to 25.00, with a Power Play side bet option that costs 99x your stake. The branded theme looks polished - One-Eyed Willy's pirate ship backdrop, animated character symbols, atmospheric sound design with Goonies quotes. If you've played any of the earlier entries, the visual identity will feel instantly familiar.
