Treasure-snipes: Christmas Slot Overview

Blackbeard's crew has hung garlands on the rigging and gone treasure hunting in the snow. Under the tinsel this is a hold-and-win game: ribbon-wrapped chests land on the first four reels, six of them lock the board down, and everything worth waiting for happens from there.

The base game is a plain 20-line 5x3 running at a 29% hit rate, so something lands roughly two spins in seven, usually small. What a player is actually tracking is the chest count. Six starts the round. Twelve fills every position on reels 1 to 4 and opens the Grand Reel, where the 4,600x ceiling gets decided in a single spin.

It is the Treasure-snipes engine in a Santa hat. Evoplay redressed the original for December rather than rebuilding it, and how much that matters depends on how the first one landed.

Theme & Design

A galleon at anchor on a black-blue sea, snow piled on the cannon barrels, warm string lights threaded through the rigging. Two carved serpent heads flank the reels and a pine garland runs across the top of the frame, under four painted signboards showing the jackpot totals. It is a good piece of art direction, warmer than most Christmas reskins bother with.

The symbol set splits cleanly. Low pays are glass baubles with card suits painted on them in pink, blue, purple and green, which is the laziest part of the game. Above them sit an anchor tangled in holly and lit candles, a rolled treasure map, a scowling admiral in a white periwig, a dreadlocked pirate woman in a blue bandana chewing a candy cane, and Blackbeard in a red coat with an eyepatch. Bonus chests arrive wrapped in an enormous red ribbon. Scatters are grinning skulls in Santa hats.

Features & How They Work

Six chests and the lockdown

Six or more chests anywhere fire the Bonus Game. Regular symbols fade out, the chests stay put, and each one takes a cash value between 1x and 15x total bet or one of the MINI, MEGA and SUPER jackpots. Three respins on the clock. Every fresh chest resets the counter to three, so the round runs as long as chests keep arriving and stops the moment they stop. Because chests only reach reels 1 to 4, the board caps at twelve of them, which gives this hold and win a finish line rather than an open-ended grind.

Filling the board for the Grand Reel

The fifth reel becomes the Grand Reel the instant the round begins, and it sits locked. Filling all twelve chest positions unlocks it for exactly one spin. That spin pays a jackpot (GRAND included, and it lives nowhere else), a flat 20x, 30x, 40x or 50x, or a multiplier of x2 to x5. Flat prizes and jackpots are added to what the chests already hold, multipliers are applied to it. Draw the x2 after a perfect collection of small values and the reward for the hardest thing the game asks of you is thin.

Four jackpot tiers

MINI pays 75x, MEGA 150x, SUPER 500x and GRAND 4,000x total bet. The first three turn up inside chests or on the Grand Reel. The last is Grand Reel exclusive, and the gap between it and SUPER is most of this game's ambition.

Eight free spins with the reels stripped bare

Three or more skulls award 8 free spins plus an instant 1x, 5x or 20x bet for three, four or five of them. During the round the reels drop everything except pirates, Wilds, Scatters and chests, and the middle reel goes further still, carrying only Wilds, Scatters and chests. That single restriction does all the work: retriggers (another 8 spins on three scatters) and bonus entries both arrive far more often than in the base game. Chests triggering mid-round pause the free spins, the Bonus Game resolves, then the count picks up where it stopped. No buy button in this edition, though the Bonus Buy version of the original sells its way in.

Wilds and scatter behaviour

Wilds substitute for every regular symbol but never for a Scatter or a chest, and they land on reels 2 to 5 only. Reel one never carries one, so nothing ever starts on a wild. Scatters ignore paylines entirely, and they keep appearing during free spins, which is what makes the retrigger live.

How Treasure-snipes: Christmas Plays

Sessions here run quiet. Small returns land often enough to keep the balance ticking over, but the bauble pays are so flat that a string of them barely registers, and attention drifts to the chest count instead of the win meter. Four or five chests on screen with none of them sticking is the standard near miss. It happens constantly.

Then the round starts and the pace flips hard. Most bonus rounds stall out around seven or eight chests with the Grand Reel still dark above them, so reaching twelve feels different from simply finishing a bonus, and that is the smartest thing about the design. Free spins are the softer way in, and probably the more likely one to pay something: the thinned reels turn them into a chest hunt rather than a payline round. Between those two, the game has a rhythm. Long flat stretch, sudden shape, back to flat.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The hold-and-win round has a proper goal, not just respins: twelve chests opens the Grand Reel
  • Free spins strip the middle reel to specials only, so retriggers and bonus entries land often
  • Four jackpot tiers topped by a 4,000x GRAND
  • Art direction is a clear step above the usual holiday reskin

Cons

  • Base game is thin, with four identical bauble symbols doing most of the work
  • No buy feature in this edition
  • A x2 on the Grand Reel makes a perfect twelve-chest board feel wasted
  • Eight free spins is short for a round built around collecting

Is Treasure-snipes: Christmas Worth Playing?

6/10

A December reskin that earns its keep. The chest collection is a good hold-and-win, the twelve-slot ceiling gives it a shape most of them lack, and the free spins are built to feed that round rather than run as a separate mode. Sound and art carry the holiday theme without tipping into novelty.

What holds it back is everything between bonuses. Line pays are forgettable, the baubles are filler, and high volatility on a 20-line 5x3 buys you long flat stretches. Anyone who played the original knows exactly what this is: the same game with snow on it. The snow is nicely done.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum win in Treasure-snipes: Christmas?

4,600x the total bet. In practice that ceiling means the 4,000x GRAND jackpot, which only pays from the Grand Reel.

How do you unlock the Grand Reel?

Collect 12 Bonus chests during the Bonus Game, filling every position on reels 1 to 4. That opens the fifth reel for one spin, awarding a jackpot, a 20x to 50x cash prize, or a x2 to x5 multiplier.

How are free spins triggered?

Three or more Scatters anywhere award 8 free spins, along with an instant payout of 1x, 5x or 20x bet for three, four or five Scatters. Three Scatters during the round add another 8 spins.

Is there a bonus buy?

Not in this Christmas edition. Evoplay released a separate Bonus Buy version of the original Treasure-snipes for players who want to skip the wait.

Can under-18s play the demo?

No. Free-play demos are for adults of legal gambling age in their country, usually 18 or over. If you move to real money, set a deposit limit before you start.
