Rainbow Princess is Hacksaw Gaming's entry into the anime magical girl niche, and it's a departure from their usual punk, horror, or casino aesthetics. Pastel clouds, art nouveau gold frames, a blonde princess with a flowing rainbow dress, gemstone symbols in ornate settings. It looks like a Sailor Moon transformation sequence frozen mid-sparkle. Whether that appeals to you or not will probably decide how you feel about this one before you even spin.
The 6x5 grid uses cluster pays - connect 5 or more matching symbols horizontally or vertically to form a win. Payouts scale up through six cluster size tiers, topping out at 100x for 15+ premium symbols or wilds. It's a familiar framework, but the mechanics layered on top are where things get interesting.
Standard tumble slots remove winning symbols and drop new ones in. Rainbow Princess takes it further. When a cluster wins, ALL regular symbols of that type disappear from the entire grid - not just the ones in the winning cluster. If you match 5 blue gems and there are 3 more blue gems scattered elsewhere, all 8 vanish.
This creates larger gaps in the grid, pulling down more fresh symbols per cascade. It's aggressive. A single mid-tier cluster win might clear 10+ positions, bringing down enough new symbols to trigger a second cascade without needing a perfectly positioned follow-up. The downside: your winning symbol type is completely gone, so you're relying on whatever drops in to form something new.
When at least one cluster forms, random grid positions receive Magic Frame Multipliers valued between 2x and 100x. If a framed position becomes part of a winning cluster, that multiplier activates. Multiple frames in the same cluster add their values together before applying to the win.
The doubling rule is the real engine. Each time a Magic Frame position participates in a new cascade win, its multiplier value doubles. A 5x frame becomes 10x, then 20x, then 40x across successive cascades. Combined with Super Cascades clearing entire symbol types and pulling new matches into framed positions, multipliers escalate across a chain of wins.
Aurora Gems amplify everything further. One gem appears on the grid per cascade at most, carrying a value between x2 and x10. When it activates, every Magic Frame Multiplier on the grid gets multiplied by that value. A grid with three frames at 10x, 5x, and 20x hit by a x5 Aurora Gem becomes 50x, 25x, and 100x instantly.
Tiara Treasure (3 scatters, 10 spins): base game mechanics with one major upgrade - Magic Frame Multipliers become sticky and progressive. They stay in position across all 10 spins, retaining and building their values. A frame that starts at 3x in spin 1 could reach 48x by spin 5 if it keeps hitting wins.
Make It Rainbow (4 scatters, 10 spins): adds a Rainbow Rush Bar outside the grid. Each winning cluster fills the bar proportionally. When full, it drops 3-5 wild symbols onto the grid, resets, and starts filling again. Sticky progressive frames plus periodic wild injections.
Throne of Starlight (5 scatters, Hidden Epic, 10 spins): every single position on the 6x5 grid starts with a sticky progressive Magic Frame Multiplier, minimum value 4x. Thirty positions, all framed, all doubling on cascade participation.
The anime theme execution got mixed reviews. It's competent but generic within the magical girl niche - there are dozens of anime-styled slots already, and Rainbow Princess doesn't bring a distinctive visual identity beyond Hacksaw's usual production quality. The princess character is nice art but has no personality beyond 'commands cosmic energy.'
Base game without Magic Frames activating feels sparse. Cluster wins at minimum size (5 symbols) on a 6x5 grid pay between 0.1x and 1.5x bet. You need frames, cascades, and ideally Aurora Gems stacking together to get meaningful returns. That combo happens, but the path from a bare spin to a chain reaction has a wide gap.
