The symbol set splits clean. Four carved rune stones in blue, teal, purple and red at the bottom, then four creatures above them: a purple owl with orange brow tufts, a red-maned beast caught mid-stride, a blue-white cat with a plumed tail, and a squat green toad wearing a crystal shell on its back. The art is the strongest thing here, hand-painted and warm, closer to a children's picture book than a casino floor. Audio is the weaker half. That ambient loop is pleasant and does almost nothing to tell you whether a spin mattered.

Sessions run at two speeds: waiting, and the bonus. With no wilds and no multipliers in base play the runes just trickle, and the both-ways lines mean small wins arrive often enough that the balance drains slowly instead of dramatically. Nothing telegraphs a trigger. The Scroll simply appears one spin and the tempo changes.

What lifts these free spins above the average 7-spin round is that you end up watching positions rather than the spin counter. The Magic Pattern idea is a good one and it carries the game. Free spins that grow new rules as targets get hit beat another round of stacked wilds, and the fruit pick gives the round a proper finish rather than a fade-out. Then there is everything surrounding it. Base play is scenery, the rune stones are close to pointless at 3x for five, and even a flawless run with all three patterns and a x4 fruit lands well short of what high volatility usually dangles.

Which is exactly why the buy edition exists, and 42x is priced sensibly enough to justify it. Evoplay went back to this forest again with Fabled Fruits, and the pattern system is the piece worth keeping from all three. For a 2022 release it holds up better than its ceiling suggests, so long as the base game gets treated as a queue rather than somewhere to spend an evening.
